I stayed at the Courtyard Quebec for a short business trip. This is a quite recent construction and well located. It is a nice place that fits well to business as well as leisure trips.

The property

This hotel is located on the north side of Quebec City, far from the main tourist attractions. It is nevertheless well located in a commercial area where many restaurants, stores and shopping malls are located.

There is a lot of space in the hall and many seats and coaches are available. Additional public area is available on hall the second floor. A bar is located directly in the hotel hall and makes this area noisy, mainly at the end of the day, the time at which I registered.

The room

My room is almost an exact copy of the room I stayed in at the Courtyard Montreal Brossard. This room is spacious, with a King size bed. A carpet is covering the floor and is not worn and seems clean. There is a lot of storage available all around. The desk is on wheels, and can be moved around. The wheeled chair is adjustable and very comfortable. Power outlets are located on the desk, but they don’t work, and the module can be detached from the desk. There is maintenance to do here.

There is a coffee maker, with bags. A small fridge, a small microwave oven, an iron with its board is also available. A loveseat with an ottoman allows to comfortably lie down. However, the seat is very deep and not comfortable to sit on.

The room is very well soundproofed. During my stay, I noticed a lot of children staying at the hotel and, despite that, I didn’t hear any noise in my room.

HDMI plugs are accessible behind the TV. Netflix access is possible directly on the TV system. The television can pivot to orient it towards the bed of the couch.

The bed is very comfortable, cuddly, and has provided me with a good night of sleep. There is a nightstand on each side of the bed with power plugs on each of them.

The bathroom

The bathroom is large. There is a large shower, and no bath. Everything is clean. Even after letting the water run for many minutes, there is no hot water in the shower. There is sufficient room on the counter around the sink.

Services

The staffs at the reception desk are friendly. At my arrival, the check in process was quick, the staffs is very efficient. A small restaurant and a bar are available on site, where it is possible to take all the meals. Breakfast was not included in my room fare. There is no free coffee offered. It is possible to purchase some at the restaurant, to take out, but the service is slow mainly during meal hours, where there can be a lot of traffic. The restaurant can be very busy in the morning. I have noted an obvious lack of staff which makes the service very slow. If you are in a hurry to take your breakfast, this restaurant might not be your first option.

This hotel has an inside pool and a gym.

Internet access (Wi-Fi) is free and works well.

Exterior parking is free.

Design

This property is a relatively new construction, and all the room and the common areas furniture is in good shape. The room décor is very modern. This room being an almost exact copy of the room I had at the Courtyard Montreal Brossard shows this chain strategy to provide the traveller with an experience that will satisfy his expectations where ever his location in several establishment of this chain. The large mural at the head of the bed, with its colors and vegetal shapes energize the room. The modern bathroom is well organized. The overall design is very well and designed with taste.

The common area design is modern, spaced and provides many places for quiet meetings, but without any particularly notable design pieces.

My two cents

This property provides a very pleasant stay, and suits well for business trips as well as vacations. The restaurant onsite increases the value by making things simpler. The room decor and functionality are very interesting. Although this establishment seems to be a recent construction, signs of wear and minor problems are starting to show up. Management should take action right now to prevent the problems from adding up and from starting to damage the experience.

The devil is in the details:

• No hot water in the shower.
• Power outlets not working on the desk.
