Delta Quebec City

EN / FR

April 2023

I stayed at the Delta Quebec for one night during a business trip. This hotel is located downtown and directly next to the convention center. During my stay the hotel was in renovation.

The property

This hotel is located downtown, right next door from the convention center, across from the parliament and a couple of minute of walking distance from the old city. This is a large property with meeting rooms, a restaurant-bar and an interior courtyard. The size of the property may cause your room to be far from the elevator. And only one elevator system is available per floor.

Because of renovations underway, the hotel entrance was cluttered by fences. The hotel has public spaces spread on three floors. The reception is located on the third floor. The hotel shares the building with government offices. So the main entrance is also used by the employees of these offices. This probably explains why the hotel reception is not located right on the main entrance floor.

During my stay, probably because of the renovations underway, the corridors were very cold. In fact, there were several openings leading outside of the building, poorly isolated and directly in the corridors leading to the rooms.

The room

My room was spacious with two Queen Size beds. The floor is covered with a worn-out carpet. There is a Nespresso coffee machine (original cups), a small fridge, a kettle, and an iron and its ironing board. The closet is closed. HDMI and USB outlet are accessible in the back of the TV. The television system allows connecting a Netflix account. A large desk is available with a chair on casters. This chair is very damaged. There are many power outlets available on the desk. At the room entrance, there is a large area that seems unused besides from an empty shelf on the wall. The edge of the window is damaged since its components can move. An opening in front of the heating system is roughly blocked by a painted plywood board. The heating system is quiet and it is possible to adjust the room temperature.

The room is dirty. There are much debris on the floor, crumbles, and all kind of dirt. I found, behind the fridge, a pair of socks (not mine…) and a plastic bottle cap. The room is dusty and I suffered from respiratory allergy during my stay. The wall paper is falling off in many places. The carpet is worn-out and needs to be replaced or to suffer a serious clean-up.

Only one nightstand is available, placed between the two beds where a power outlet is available. The bed is not comfortable and gives in in the middle, which doesn’t provide a good night of sleep.

I stayed in this hotel during a week-end, and early in the morning, we can clearly hear children screaming and running in the corridor. I understand that during the cold seasons, this hotel attracts family mainly because of the exterior heated pool that must an interesting attraction for this clientele.

My room window is overlooking the interior courtyard, which doesn’t gives an interesting view during the cold seasons, since it is not maintained during these time of the year, besides from the exterior pool that remains open.

The bathroom

The bathroom is of an average size with a large area around the sink. Everything is clean. The shower is in the bath. The shower only has a hand pommel. Shower gel and shampoo are available from a dispenser on the shower wall. A hook was tear off behind the door and not replaced or repaired.

The hair dryer was not working. The hotel housekeeping accepted to replace with any issue, but it took very long to receive the replacement.

Services

The staff is friendly and helpful, but understaffed at the reception desk. I had to wait long minutes in a line for my check-in, by the only employee on duty.

A restaurant is available onsite and offers all the meals of the day, and a bar service. Breakfast is available but was not included in my room. For breakfast, the menu was short but diverse. I did not visit the restaurant for other meals.

An outside heated pool is located in a courtyard. This courtyard, even though not accessible during my stay, was encumbered by many piles of plastic tables and chairs lying all around, which doesn’t make the area very inviting at this time of year. A very well equipped and large gym room is also available.

Internet access (Wi-Fi) is free but doesn’t work well. There are many interruptions and disconnections.

A paid interior parking is available, with direct access to the hotel. The parking cost was not included in my room fair.

Design

The hotel public areas are not very interesting. An effort should be made to create an ambiance and to update the decor. The room is designed with taste, typical standard Delta style that can be found in almost all the rooms from this hotel chain, besides the fact that there is a serious lack of maintenance. I did not expect to see furniture that damaged in a Delta hotel.

My two cents

The general condition of my room is not up to the level expected in a hotel part of the Delta chain from Marriott. This banner usually has quite high standards of quality. I didn’t found this level in this hotel. I would even say that the level of quality is clearly inferior to what observed in highway side motel banners. Since the property is currently in renovation, it is possible that my visit was in a transition time and that damage and maintenance issues will be resolved at the end of these works. Nevertheless, the room cleanliness has nothing to do with renovations, since it depends on operations. The managers of this establishment should revise their practices to solve these housekeeping issues to remain at the level of quality of the chain that they are part of.

The devil is in the details:

  • Cleanliness. Cleanliness.
  • Cold in the corridors (Renovations).
  • Hair dryer not working (and was replaced).
  • Bad internet access.

Pros

  • Outdoor heated pool.
  • Nice location.

Cons

  • Damaged room furniture.
  • Bed not comfortable.
