Residence Inn Montreal Airport

EN / FR

The Residence Inn Montreal Airport is a hotel complex that also includes the Marriott Courtyard Montreal Airport, and a restaurant accessible from both hotels. The hotel is in the West Island area of Montreal where several shopping malls and restaurants are just a short drive away.

The Property

Upon entering, a large lobby welcomes you with ample seating. This space extends into a large room, furnished with several tables, which also serves as a breakfast area. This five-story property is located on Highway 40, a short drive from the airport.

The Room

I booked a “Studio” room using my Air Miles reward points. I wasn’t disappointed, as my room was very large and well-equipped. A king-size bed overlooked a living room area furnished with a large sofa and a large coffee table. Unfortunately, the bed wasn’t very comfortable, as it sank in the middle. The living room area extends into a small kitchen equipped with a two-seater table, a full-size refrigerator, a stovetop, a dishwasher, and a large microwave. Several cabinets contain dishes, cookware (pots, pans, etc.), and cutlery—all the basic tools needed for cooking. A drip coffee maker and a toaster are also provided. Even some detergents are provided.

The ventilation and heating system is relatively quiet, but its airflow is directed straight toward the head of the bed, which is not conducive to comfort during sleep.

A chest of drawers offers storage space. A medium-sized television, with a swivel base, sits on top of the chest, allowing it to be positioned toward the bed or the sofa in the living area. Unfortunately, it cannot be oriented towards the table in the kitchen section. Streaming services can be accessed directly from the television or via Bluetooth. HDMI ports are also located behind the TV.

There is also a small desk with a comfortable rolling chair. Several electrical outlets are accessible from this desk, as well as a network port for internet access.

The bedroom floor is carpeted, except in the kitchen area where the floor is ceramic tile. Both the bedroom and the carpet are clean.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is divided into two sections. The first section opens directly onto the bedroom without a door. It includes a large countertop and sink, as well as a wardrobe that can be closed with large, mirrored doors. In there, are located an ironing board and iron, a folding suitcase rack, and a plastic laundry basket. Why not. The second section is very small bathroom closed off by a door and includes a toilet and a bathtub. The shower is in the bathtub. This configuration does not offer privacy for the sink user but allows for shared access to the bathroom fixtures. This can be seen as an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on individual preferences. The bathroom is clean.

Services

Parking is not free, which is quite surprising for a hotel in this part of Montreal. Access is controlled by a barrier, and the parking area is fenced, which could explain the additional charge. The hotel offers “park and fly” packages, which could also explain the fences and fees.

An airport shuttle is available, but since I didn’t use it during my stay, I can’t comment on the quality or on the frequency of the service.

A hot buffet-style breakfast is included in the room rate. I found hot sandwiches and bagels, as well as a good variety of hot and cold items. There are plenty of tables available in the breakfast area adjacent to the hotel reception, so I didn’t experience any morning rush hour crowds in that room during my stay.

A gym and a separate weight room are available. There’s also a laundry room with automatic washers and dryers, as well as a business center with computers and a printer.

Wi-Fi is free and reliable.

A small convenience counter in the lobby offers a selection of beverages, snacks, and frozen meals.

Design

Two vibrant paintings adorn the walls of the kitchenette, and a large painting hangs on one wall of the living room area, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The room’s carpet features a botanical pattern, lending a modern touch. Clearly, some effort has gone into giving this room a distinctive style.

My two cents

The room is large, very well furnished, and well-equipped, making it an attractive choice for medium-to-long-term stays where you might want to prepare or eat meals in your room. Personally, I didn’t appreciate the two-section layout of the bathroom, and especially the very small size of the bath and toilet area. Those who prefer some privacy when using the sink will be disappointed by the lack of a door in this part of the bathroom.

The devil is in the details:

– Uncomfortable bed

– Bathroom divided into two sections

Pros

– Located near the airport and shopping centers

– On-site restaurant

– Large room

– Very well-equipped room

Cons

– Paid parking

– Small bathroom

– Ventilation directed towards the bed
