Motel Chandler
June 2022
I visited Chandler again for another business trip. The first time I was here, I stayed at the Fraser Motel, as you can discover in another review. I took advantage of this second visit to discover this different hotel. The Motel Chandler is in the commercial center of the town, from a walking distance of some fast-food restaurant franchises and a small shopping center. This establishment has three distinct location called pavilion « A », « B » and pavilion « C ». The « B » and the « C » are located less than a kilometer from the « A » in opposite directions. The reception desk, for the three locations, is in pavilion « A ». I also stayed in pavilion « C », during another stay, which I have not documented in a formal review in this blog. However, I invite you to stay away from the « C ». I recommend you the « A », if you have the choice. The pavilion « C » is an old decrepit installation, badly maintained. I never stayed in the pavilion « B », so I can’t comment about this location.
The property
Pavilion « A » of the Motel Chandler is built on three stories, one being the basement. There is no elevator leading to the second floor or to the basement rooms. A restaurant is attached to the hotel. During my stay, its opening hours were irregular. According to the hotel staff, the lack of personnel sometimes forced its closing earlier than the announced opening hours and sometimes for complete part of the day. The reception access is done by climbing a steep staircase leading to the main floor. There are no recreational installations in this establishment, no gym and no pool. The building is essentially located in the middle of an asphalt parking lot. Parking spaces are available all around the establishment. The rooms in the basement don’t have any windows.
The corridor that leads to my room, on the second floor, is very hot, and is obviously missing minimum ventilation to evacuate the summer heat.
The room
My room is located on the second floor and has two beds, a small table, two armchairs and a large desk with drawers on which a small television set is located. The floor is an imitation wood vinyl covering, which I prefer from a carpet. The furniture is worn with many damages. The armchairs are not comfortable since their seats have caved in. The manual window actuator handle is broken. A large open closet is available. The room is well equipped with a luggage rack, a small TV, a Keurig capsule coffee machine and a small fridge. There is also an ironing board, but its iron is broken. No microwave oven is available.
The bed is not comfortable, and the pillows are very thin. These didn’t provided the good night of sleep that I needed.
I didn’t have to use the air conditioning system during my stay, so I cannot comment on its efficiency or on its sound level.
You won’t have any view on the sea from this hotel since it is located far from the seashore.
The bathroom
The first thing I noticed was that the bathroom is dark. The floor is not clean: some tiles are broken, and dirt has accumulated in the cracks and in the room corners.
The counter space around the sink is sufficient. The ceiling fan enclosure is damaged, has probably melted, but still works fine.
Services
According to the information provided in the room, room service is available. I didn’t try it. Because of the restaurant irregular opening hours, I doubt that this service is available. Because of the combination of the depressing atmosphere of the room and the nice summer night, I choose to go out for my meals.
The breakfast is not included with the room cost. Breakfast is served at the hotel restaurant, depending on opening hours, and an A&W and a McDonald’s restaurants are located from a walking distance, and offers quick service breakfasts.
Outside parking is free, very large, and allows to welcome large vehicles or those with trailers, which can be convenient for some travellers.
Free Wi-Fi (internet) signal is excellent.
The hotel reception desk is not open 24 hours. You won’t have access to the reception late at night. A sign at the door says that you to can call someone who will come to open the door, when the reception is closed. I recommend that you make arrangements with the staff, prior to your arrival, if you are planning on checking in late, to prevent the bad surprise of not having access to your room on your arrival. In my case, I had to call, and it took less than half an hour for someone to show up and to provide me access.
Design
The room design is not interesting, average, and oldish, particularly the bedcover coming which comes back directly from the ’90. The room is dark, and the atmosphere is not pleasing and depressing. There is nothing notable in terms of design here.
My two cents
Motel Chandler is old and not well maintained. I had also stayed at the Motel Fraser, also in Chandler, which is of a better quality than this one. But don’t expect too much there either as you can read on my review. However, the location of Motel Chandler is more interesting, being in town, and closer to the commercial activity. In my opinion, this is not a good location for a long vacation stay. It might suit people who needs to stay in the region for work. I don’t recommend it, even for your short stops in that town, since there is a more interesting alternative.
The devil is in the details:
- Broken iron.
- Broken window handle.
Pros
- Restaurant on site.
- Located in town.
Cons
- Old and worn furniture.
- Bed not comfortable.
- No elevator.
- Reception not open 24 hours.
