Holiday Inn Longueuil-Montreal

EN / FR

April 2022

The Holiday Inn Montréal-Longueuil is located next to highway 20, on the shore of the St. Lawrence River, in front of the island of Montreal. The hotel is in an industrial area, but a more commercial sector is from a ten minutes’ drive. I stayed there for two nights for a family gathering in the area. There aren’t much commercial activities from a walking distance, beside a small Tim Horton’s coffee shop from a ten minutes’ walk. The location is convenient for an access to the Montreal south shore region.

The property

This establishment has many stories built around a large interior space surrounded by the corridors leading to the rooms. Room windows are oriented towards the exterior of the building. On the ground floor of this large interior area are the common spaces, a working area with computers and printers, a bar and a restaurant. Ans interior pool and a gym are also accessible from this floor. From the hotel entrance we have access to that large open space that also has many seatings.

This is a family hotel so there are many kids everywhere and lot of noise.

The room

The room as two double beds and is small. There is little space to move around the beds. A nightstand is located between the beds. The exterior sides of the two beds are almost right against the walls so it is difficult to go on these sides. There is a loss of space in the room by a small corridor that leads to the room door and passes in front of the bathroom. The room decor seems to have been refreshed lately. The furniture seems new and is not damaged. The floor is covered with a carpet.

A large TV set is placed on a large shelf installed on the wall, below which there is a small drawer cabinet. It is possible to connect UDB and HDMI cables behind the television. There are many power sockets located on the shelf which is a convenient location to charge small electronic devices. In a large shelf cabinet are located a small fridge and a Keurig capsules coffee machine. A bench to place a suitcase is also available. A closer without door is located next to the room exit door. There is also an ironing board, its iron, and a hairdryer. A desk is available. Strangely it is on casters because it is difficult to move it on the carpet covered floor and because there is not really another place to move it in that room. The desk chair is also on wheels. There are no power sockets near the desk.

The bed comfort is ok, but I have seen better. My night of sleep was adequate, but the hotel management should soon think to change the mattresses.

The room temperature is hard to adjust because of the old mechanical thermostats, but the electrical heating is quiet. Large wood boxes seem to hide an air conditioning system and takes a lot of room. These indicate that the room renovation is not completed.

The room door soundproofing is bad, and we can hear very well clients talking in the corridor. Early in the morning housekeeping employees talk loudly and we can easily hear that from the room.

There is a cleanliness issue in that room. The carpet is dirty and dusty. I have found many food residues on the ground. The desktop was dirty.

The bathroom

From the location of the room door in a corner, it hit the open bathroom door. This is surprising at first, but it becomes easy to adapt.

The bathroom is somewhat small, but there is a lot of counter surface around the sink. The shower is in a small bath. Contrary to the room, the bathroom is clean.

Services

The breakfast price was not included with my room. All the meals are served in the hotel restaurant, which is convenient since there are no alternatives around. Coffee is available all day but must be paid.

Exterior parking is free.

The night staff who welcomed me was not friendly, was arrogant and uninterested. A training in customer service is required.

Even there is no microwave oven available in my room, I found one in a common area and available to the hotel clients.

Design

As mentioned, the room seems to have been renovated recently. In the room, strong and different patterns are used in several places. For example, there are large rafters on the bedhead, houndstooth on a drawer cabinet and an imprecise representation of circles in the bathroom. Colors are coherent everywhere in the room, but we lose meaning in the patterns.

In the common areas, an aviation theme is used, probably because of the Pratt & Whitney plant next door. A small plane is suspended in the middle of the interior court. That theme is not used in the rooms.

My two cents

This establishment seems to be popular with families, based on the type of clients I saw during my stay. The installations and services offered are indeed convenient and adapted to this clientele. However, the room size, with two beds, and the low quality of housekeeping shows that the value for the money is not good. The recent room update shows that the administration is looking to keep the standards high, but that motivation is not showing on the housekeeping. I may return to this hotel to see if the experience is a single bedroom is better.

The devil is in the details:

  • General uncleanliness of the room.

Pros

  • Restaurant and bar on site.

Cons

  • Small room.
  • Bad room door soundproofing.
  • Low value for the money.
