Holiday Inn Express & Suites Moncton
March 2022
I stayed for a couple of nights at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites during a business trip in Moncton. This establishment is in the suburbs next to highway 2 which crosses the province and that will quickly take you downtown by car. There is no stores or restaurant from a walking distance, around the hotel, but many restaurants are located from a couple of minutes by car. The location is far from the city center and from the tourist attractions.
The property
This establishment is a construction quite recent. Many tables and chairs are placed in a large area next to the hall. This space is used as a breakfast room in the morning and is accessible all day. There are no restaurant or bar on site. A small counter, next to the reception desk, offers beverages, snacks, and frozen meals to purchase. An indoor pool and a gym are also available on site. A small laundry room, with payable machines is provided in a small room on the ground floor.
The room
The room, quite large, has two double beds. Everything is clean and well maintained. The floor is covered with a carpet which seems to be clean and not worn. The bed is very comfortable and has provided me with an excellent night of sleep. One nightstand is located between the two beds, and power inlets are provided on it. However, the smoke detector, located on the room ceiling, has a light that blinks all the time, which can be annoying at night. A large desk is installed near the room window with a height adjustable chair on wheels. A modern lamp placed on the desk has power and USB inlets at its base. Many storage spaces are available, like drawers, a large shelf for a suitcase, hooks about the suitcase shelf and a large, closed closet. A strange corner shelf is in front of the microwave shelf case and of the use is unknown. An armchair is placed in a corner with a small round table under a suspended lamp, which provides an ideal reading place.
The room is well equipped. There is a small fridge, a Keurig capsules coffee machine, and a small microwave oven. These equipment are all placed on shelves between the room and the bathroom, near the room entrance.
Some streaming services are accessible directly on the television. It is possible to connect HDMI cables behind the TV, but there are no USB sockets available.
The heating system works with ventilation and produce some noise, which can be tolerable. It is possible to adjust the room temperature.
The bathroom
The bathroom is rather spacious. The shower is in a bath. Soap dispensers are installed in the shower. There is enough counter space around the sink. An air dryer is provided.
Services
The staff at the reception is very friendly, bilingual, and helpful.
Breakfast is included with the room. It is served in a large room next to the hall. Hot and cold food is served in a self-serve buffet. During my stay, the breakfast time was very busy, but the staff was able to keep the up by making sure there was enough of everything, and nothing was missing.
Free popcorn and coffee are served all day long in the hall.
Exterior parking is free.
Internet (Wi-Fi) is free and very good.
Design
This hotel decor is modern. Common areas don’t stand out from a design standpoint, but everything is pleasant and of good taste. In my room, I have noted the modern design of the desk lamp from Lux Led Lighting. It comes with many power and USB sockets, and a cell phone holder. That is a nice functionality example. I have also noted the translucent soap tray: this is a classic from Holiday Inn that I have seen many times in other properties of this chain. A dynamic and organic shape which color stands out in the complete whites of this bathroom. These design touches make the environment modern, and these details make the stay more interesting.
My two cents
My stay at Moncton’s Holiday Inn Express & Suites went without waves. The place is pleasing, contemporary and is not a design postcard. All is there for a nice business travel stay. I would probably find this place boring for a longer vacation stay when I might spend more time in the installations. My stay took place at the same time as a local minor hockey tournament, which can often degenerate in a cascade of problems. I must admit that the staff managed that situation admirably, mainly during breakfast when the activity was intense. I would certainly go back to this hotel for my next business trip in Moncton.
The devil is in the details:
- Smoke detector light flashing nonstop (even at night).
Pros
- Recent construction.
- Free coffee and popcorn all day.
Cons
- Not the best location.
