Deux Rivières Resort
December, 2021
The Deux Rivières Resort is a large property located on the St-Lawrence Gulf shore that includes a hotel, cottages and a conference center. This complex is at 10 minutes’ drive by car from downtown Tracadie-Sheila. There is not commercial activity, no restaurant or shops, at a walking distance around the hotel. This is a remote site, very calm and peaceful.
The property
This complex is a large site on which we find the hotel, the conference center and cottages, spread around the property. The site is not wooded and therefor offers a view on the water from almost all points. A small sinuous paved road connects all the buildings.
Parking is free.
During my stay, there were not many clients. So the environment and the site were peaceful and quiet (to be validated in high season).
The room
My room was large. A big desk offers a large work surface and comes with a very comfortable wheeled desk chair. However, no power outlet was available nearby. No plugs were available near any of the two nightstand located on each side of the bed. The room is clean despite the carpet is showing signs of aging.
The room is well equipped with a Keurig capsule coffee machine, an ironing board with its iron and a small fridge. There is no micro-wave oven available in the room. The closet doesn’t have a door and is large enough. However, I would have liked more than three hangers to hang my clothes.
The bed mattress is fine, no more, a bit soft and giving in a little. My sleep quality was satisfactory, but I have slept on better mattresses.
The heating system works with a warm air principle, in a way that there is continuously air circulation in the room.
The bathroom
The bathroom is large and clean. A large counter on each side of the sink provides a lot of space. A large mirror covers one of the walls. The shower is in a bath. Basic bathing products are provided.
However, I have noted damages on the wall around the bath frame, which testify a little lack in maintenance.
In the shower, there is only a hand shower and the water pressure was mostly low. Also, the shower curtain was not waterproof, so water could pass through and end up on the floor.
Services
A basic breakfast, cold, buffet style, is offered to client, without additional cost with the room price. No hot meal is available, beside toast that one can prepare by oneself. The products are fresh, but the choice is limited. There is no other restauration offered on site. Snacks and beverages are sold at the hotel reception desk.
Internet access (Wi-Fi) is free and excellent.
The hotel reception desk is not open 24 hours a day and closes at 8 pm. If you are planning your arrival at the hotel after this time, you should make arrangements before that time, of when doing the reservation, to pick-up your room key.
The hotel has a small gym, with only two treadmills, and was closed during my stay. I didn’t ask why the access was not possible. The road which connects all the buildings on the site is a perfect course for a short distance run. There is no pool on site.
Design
In the room, I can see that an effort has been made to match colors in the choice of furniture, drapery and bedding. However, we are in a brown theme which makes the room dark and which is not very contemporary. The managers of this site must absolutely arrive in the 21st century and provide easy access to power plugs in the room for travelers. These are essential to connect electronic devices.
My own two cents
According to my personnel travelling experience in this region, the Deux Rivières Resort offers the best rooms in the Acadian Peninsula. For a holiday escapade or a short business travel stay, I recommend this hotel. The room decoration is from another decade, but all is clean and relatively well maintained. Although this destination is a little remote from commercial activity, the fact that a breakfast is offered on site compensate for that inconvenience. The managers of this complex should start thinking about renewing the mattresses before the situation continues to deteriorate more.
The devil is in the details:
- Damaged walls in the bath room.
- Mediocre mattress.
Pros
- Quiet site on water shore.
- Large room and large bathroom.
Cons
- Reception desk opening hours.
- No power plugs accessible on the work desk.
