Delta St.John’s Hotel and Conference Center
November, 2021
I stayed at the Delta St.John’s Hotel and Conference Center for a couple of days during a business trip. This hotel is located right downtown and very close from the convention centre and from the coliseum. This is a well-equipped property and a very nice venue for a short or for a long stay.
The property
This hotel is located downtown so there are several restaurants and retail stores from a walking distance. This establishment is near the convention center. There is an interior passage to go from the hotel to the arena and from there to St.John’s convention center.
The hotel hall is vast with large siting areas with many seats and coaches. An interior parking is available, but I didn’t use it during this stay. Many meeting rooms are also available on site.
The room
My room is very spacious. The air conditioning system is effective and quiet. The room is well equipped and well furnished. A carpet covers the floor. There is a small fridge, a coffee machine with bags (no capsules), and an ironing board. There is no microwave oven. The room has the large working desk typical of the design of the rooms of the Delta chain, with a complete power bar directly on the desk and an integrated luggage shelf. The closet is closed and large. Power outlets are available on each of the two nightstands, on each side of the bed. The room seems soundproof since I didn’t hear any disturbing noise during my stay.
There are many signs of wear and some damages in the room (closet door damaged and broken plug), which shows shortcomings in maintenance.
The bathroom
The bathroom is vast with a large surface around the sink. Everything is clean. The shower is in the bath. The shower has a large pommel, with good pressure and stable water temperature.
However, there is no ventilation in the bathroom, which causes humidity to buildup in the room.
Services
I have found the staff very friendly and helpful.
A restaurant, with a bar, is located in the hotel and offers meals all day long. Breakfast was included in the price of my room and included a large variety of à-la-carte choices. The menu is somewhat small but has a good variety, including an interesting choice of local microbreweries beers. However, there was no vegetarian meal on the menu. Room service is available but I didn’t use it.
There is an interior pool and a well-equipped gym on site.
Internet access (wi-fi) is free and excellent.
Access to the elevators work with the room key. This system might seem safe at first but becomes bothersome after a while.
Design
The room decor is modern but probably dating back twenty years. However, the furniture in the hall and in the public areas is interesting and I have found some notable pieces. Such as a console which elegantly mixes aluminum with rough wood. Also, I have noted a column lamp on the ground with a distinct geometry.
My two cents
The Delta St.John’s is a nice hotel that suits well to long stays. It is well equipped and suits as well business stays aand family vacations. Although the public areas are modern and nice, the rooms should be better maintained and need a upgrade in their decoration.
The devil is in the details:
- Damages in the room.
Pros
- Well equipped property.
- Large public areas.
- Excellent location.
Cons
- Wear traces on the furniture in the room.
- No ventilation in the bathroom (humidity in the room).
