Courtyard by Marriott Montreal Brossard
February 2022
I stayed at the Courtyard Montreal Brossard for a weekend for a short get away. Contrary to what its name might lead to believe, this hotel is not located on the Montreal island, but in Brossard, on the metropole south shore.
The property
This hotel is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, in front of Montreal, at the crossing of highways 10 and 30, near the 10-30 power center. This is a new construction and, during my stay, Marriott was making it available for only 15 000 Bonvoy points per night, probably as an incentive. There are some restaurants from a walking distance and many stores from a couple of minutes’ drive. There is no train or metro service nearby. A train station was under construction during my stay, next to this property.
The hotel hall is large and many seat and couches are disposed around. Some places, organized in alcoves, allows for more confidential meetings. Some computers are also at the clients’ disposal. On the second floor are meeting rooms, a gym and a pool. Other common spaces with some seats are also available on the floor.
The room
My room is spacious, with a King size bed. The ground is covered with a carpet. There is a lot of storage available. The work desk is on wheels and can be moved to offer an increase work area. The desk chair is on wheel, adjustable and very comfortable. In the room there is a Keurig capsule coffee machine, but only one capsule was provide, and no sugar. A small fridge, a small microwave oven, and an ironing board with its iron are also available. The room is furnished with a couch and an ottoman. The couch seat is very deep and so not very comfortable for short person. However, it becomes very comfortable when laying your legs on the ottoman.
It is possible to connect a mobile device on the television set, for streaming. The system also offers films rental. HDMI and USB sockets are accessible behind the TV. The marriott.tv system is not available.
The heating system is very quiet. The bed is very comfortable and has provided me with an excellent night of sleep. A night table is placed on each side of the bed with electrical plugs accessible on each one.
The bathroom
The bath room is large, with a large shower, and no bath. Everything is clean. The shower has a large opening, without door, that lets a lot of cold air in so it takes a while for the shower to warm the air. The shower jet is somewhat week. The counter area around the sink is large and provides sufficient space.
Services
The personnel at the reception are friendly. There is no breakfast included with the room fare. There is a small Starbuck counter in the hotel hall that offers beverages and some products for breakfast, at quite a high price. Otherwise, you must go out. A counter offers beverages, frozen meals and snacks near the reception desk. In that same building, accessible from inside, there is restaurant, that wasn’t serving breakfast either, but was open for other meals, during my stay.
A pool and a gym are available on the second floor, near the meeting rooms.
Internet access (Wi-Fi) is free and works very well.
During my stay, on a weekend, the inside parking was free, with direct access to the hotel.
Design
Since this hotel is a recent construction, all the room and the common area furniture are in an excellent condition. The room decoration is very contemporary. A large abstract wall painting is located above the bed headrest, with vegetal colors and motifs gives life to the room. The wall light colors and the wide windowing provide a lot of light in the room. This design distinguishes itself from the dark and brown design scheme of most of the other older hotel rooms. This is a fresh breeze. The bathroom is modern and well organized with just the right available space. All is very well and with taste. Overall, the only glitch is the improbable comfort of the couch. It was most likely designed to lye-down instead of seating, which doesn’t necessarily match with what it will be used for.
I have noted in the common space the coffee tables of a James Tan like style, similar to those that I have noted at the Montreal Meridien Versailles. But these are in a washed brown color, which totally change their look, and doesn’t really fit well with the other furniture in these areas. This is a surprising choice.
My two cents
This property is very pleasant, and idea for business trips. An onsite restaurant, that serves breakfast, would make it more suitable for family trips. I believe that having to go out for breakfast is not ideal for small families. When the train station opens, this hotel will most likely become more interesting by making the access to Montreal easier and direct. Meanwhile, the price offered by Marriott is an excellent value for the money, for such a recently build hotel. I loved the room design and functionality. It’s new and refreshing compared to what is offered by other chains.
The devil is in the details:
- Only one Keurig capsule provided with the coffee machine.
Pros
- Free indoor parking (during my stay).
- Excellent value for money.
Cons
- No breakfast onsite (besides the Starbuck counter).
- Couch in room not comfortable.
