Functional room at the Aloft Montreal Airport
August 2021
I was impressed by the functionality of my room at the Aloft Montreal Airport, and by the way the designers have organized the room space, somewhat small, to maximize storage and space for the different.
But in terms of product design, two pieces have drawn my attention in the room.
The first piece is a plastic ice bucket. Made in blue translucent plastic, it brings back a product design style from the early 2000. Some call it Y2K aesthetics and this design symbolizes optimism towards the future. This design trend is characterized by flamboyant colors and translucent and frosted plastics.

The second piece is a clock, with a plastic enclosure, flamboyant green, the classic Big Ben Moonbeam. This product design brings back the streamline design style, also called Ocean Liner style, from the ‘30s.
