Design Review : AC Hotel Montreal Downtown
September 2022
My stay at the AC Hotel Montreal Downtown allowed me to discover this chain’s distinctive design approach, from the room layout and decor to the selection of appliances and accessories. Here are some of the features that caught my attention.
Glass panels dividing the room shower and toilet areas

These panels, with their dynamic and futuristic design, overload the overall look of the room. Personally, I didn’t appreciate the layout of the bathroom area in this room, for the reasons mentioned in my detailed review of the room here.
Wall switches
This is the first time I’ve seen this type of wall switch in a hotel room. They are very functional and their design is inspired by Bauhaus. They are from the Adorne collection by Legrand.
Wall partition bookshelf
These large bookshelves, used as partitions between different functional areas, are becoming common in hotel lobbies. They add visual interest to the decor, and as shown here, they can also incorporate a television.
Phone handset

Telephone handsets are still very common in hotel rooms and are primarily used to communicate with the various hotel services. I found this one particularly noteworthy. It has a Scandinavian design and was created by the Danish designer Jacob Jensen specifically for the hospitality market. You can easily find several copies online if you’d like to get one for yourself.
